Bushcraft Survival Weekend
Woodland survival skills - an active experience that will enhance your body, mind and spirit!
Surviving in the woods requires several things – fire, food, shelter, water and the practical experience of a hands-on wilderness living skills course. This course is an ideal starting point for the beginner and for those who wish to try their hand at something different.
Over the course of a weekend you will learn the basics of the following:
Fire Making - fire has always been an integral part of man's survival. In this section you will learn the ancient art of fire making using the bow drill and natural tinder.
Shelter Building - staying protected from the elements is probably the most important survival skill. Stay overnight in your creation and discover just how snug they can be.
Pursuit of Food - everything from plant identification to traditional wilderness cooking styles and recipes. And no, we will NOT make you eat worms!!
Discover the magical art of Tracking - learn to move silently and unobserved, to read the land, detect and recognise the smallest sounds, smells and signs in nature.
Water Collection & Purification - use primitive methods for collecting and purifying this life-sustaining resource. This also includes wilderness safety and hygiene.
Tree & Plant Identification – walk through woodland identifying trees and plants that have food, medicinal and other uses.
Other Topics - may include trapping and snaring, improvised weapons, river crossings, distress signals and much more.
You can either join up as an individual, as a small group of friends or you can get a larger group of friends together to have a course run just for you. For further information please contact Martin at Kippure Estate. Phone 01 4582889. Email adventure@kippure.com.

"I found the course to be an excellent learning experience. I had some knowledge of the subject beforehand, but the two days of instruction brought me on immensely and filled in a lot of the considerable gaps I had in my personal skills set. The two lads obviously know their subject well and I enjoyed their informal teaching style, they were keen for us to get involved and ask questions on subjects we wanted instruction on. I would give this course my highest recommendation to anyone interested in learning the basics of survival, or those looking to improve on skills they already have. I thoroughly enjoyed it and came away with some great new skills." Eoin Morrison
